It was a December 1957 Saturday that a fellow airmen from Tennessee and I decided to go roller skating. A bus could carry us from Keesler AFB to Gulfport, but we were short of cash. Since the tide was out we jogged the fourteen miles on the hard sand. However, when we arrived we were too tired to skate. So we bought a MAD magazine and two cups of coffee and proceeded to read. Because we were so tired, we were giddy. We got to laughing and couldn’t stop. The manager threw our butts out and we rode the bus back to the base.
So much for an exciting Saturday night.
