How would your life be different if you were incapable of feeling fear? Would your life be better or worse than it is now?
Many of us have seen the movies featuring the fearless person taking on the world singlehandedly, shooting his way whatever obstacles stand in the way. Fortunately, for this individual, the enemy suffers with poor eyesight , or defective weapons, or both. In the end this unflinching person emerges out the other side either unscathed, or with only minor scratches.
I was a maintainer in the Air Force, a person who fixed communications and navigation systems on combat aircraft. Therefore, I’m not qualified to describe the fear these GIs, both men and women, returning from the battlefield experienced.
The injuries speak for themselves.
