Once again I recall 1943 and the juke box that stood in my mother’s Streetcar Diner. The song You Belong To Me, sung by Jo Stafford played nonstop. Husbands and boyfriends were in Europe or the South Pacific. Wives and girlfriends were working in defense plants, but never-ceasing to wonder, and worry.
I was six, too young for a wife or girlfriend, but I certainly recall anguish in the eyes of those left behind. The deep impression it made faded during the 58 years that followed.
However, in 2011 Betty White and Jennifer Hewitt stared in the movie, A Lost Valentine featured the old song, You Belong To Me. And the memory came rushing back.

Wonderful post. I love old diners like that. It’s a shame there aren’t many of them left.
Those kind of memories are so bittersweet.
Thank you for sharing them. Sarah
