There one day in the
Arizona heat
I found a rattle snake coiled
Right at my feet.
‘Don’t get excited,
Move real slow,”
Say the experts who
Claim to know.
I forgot their rules
I knew I would
And jumped a lot higher than
I thought I could.
He uncoiled after a while and
Then took his leave
While I pounded my chest
And tried to breathe.
Fellers can git used to anything
Some people say
And that seems true in this
Case anyway.
‘Cuz there’s snakes everywhere but
I don’t fret
They ain’t got ahold of me
Well, at least not yet.
