Distress (100 words)

We both heard the distress call.

PLEASE HELP WE ARE ADRIFT HEADED OUT TO SEA

It didn’t come over the marine radio. It was in Morse code. Strange, very strange.

My partner was chatting with a ham in North Carolina when we heard it. It was a strong signal. I grabbed the field glasses and panned New York Harbor and spotted pleasure craft.

Mike stayed on frequency while I brought our boat around and headed in. Then I saws a young woman waving the red scarf.

Pulling along side I tossed them a tow rope and we headed for shore.
