Where Are The Keys?

When my home was in the Pacific Northwest a hot air balloon club sponsored a treasure hunt with no time limit. (I didn’t own a balloon. I couldn’t participate, but I could monitor) The prize was a new Chevrolet automobile. All the winner had to do was find the keys. There was only one clue. They were in Oregon, somewhere between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River and the California border.

The entire summer passed. Finally, in September someone found them atop a power pole on the Oregon Coast just outside the Newport city limits.

I was service manager at a GM auto dealership. The administrator of our local hospital was my customer as well as a hot air balloon enthusiast (a wealthy man’s hobby.) That is how I stay current with the events all summer long. His enthusiasm boiled over. I was sorry he wasn’t the winner.
